Using Natives
In times of drought our landscape is the first thing to be affected. The first area where we should scale back on water usage is in our backyards. Planting natives is a good way to counteract the cutbacks as they require little water and minimum maintenance.
Many people think that native plants consist of unattractive shrubs that are dry and brown in color, and won't even consider them. Well, on the contrary, natives can be very colorful and showy. In addition, low water use turf for lawn areas and mulch and rock gardens can be added for to your property as well, to decrease your water usage.
Through out this newsletter there are ideas for consideration to help your landscape survive through the water ordinances coming into effect in 2010.
P.S. Having to make drastic water cuts to your landscape does not mean it has to look bad.

Rock, Gravel, Mulch
1Rock gardens: Arizona River rock is one of the common rocks used for gardens. Add plants such as Rock rose, succulents, and Yarrow for spots of color.
